Yvonne,
If Catherine became ill she could have been hospitalized.
There is a place in Secaucus, New Jersey, that people who suffered a break down went to. If you post on the Hudson County Board there may be someone that remembers the name. I believe it is still on County(?) Ave. in Secaucus. They also had a cemetery that was just relocated because of the turnpike expansion(?). You may be able to find some news blips on the web about it.
But I think you will really want to contact the church. Because in those days, the priest would make arrangements for the children to be placed in the orphanage if Catherine became ill and could not take care of them. For some reason I think it would be Saint Anne's Orphange? I'm not really sure, so check futher.
Also the State of New Jersey Archives, in Trenton, also reachable on the web, may be able to do a search for you(?) for a small fee.
If Catherine lived in an area called West New York, New Jersey. Her location was very close to my grandfathers
(Edward Finnigan). He died in 1915, a lot of Irish
lived in that area.
Let me know how you make out.
Mrs. Kotter
