I wanted to touch base with you regarding Alta Zara Gibbs possibly being Cherokee Indian.I spoke with a geneticist, and he told me that they could determine if someone was of Cherokee descent by a DNA test. However, it only works if you are the female child of a female child… right down the line to you.Unfortunately, we are descended from Beecher, so it won’t work for us.On the other hand, I think you do qualify.Have you ever considered having this test done?Perhaps we could chip in together to pay for the expense?I know it is a lot to ask, but I doubt we will ever find out for sure unless we can get someone to take the test. Please let me know your thoughts… thank you!
I am also a descendant of Alta (Altie) and Adam.My G-Grandfather was Beecher Henry Ward Greenlee Finger. His daughter, Vera was my Grandmother. My Mother Alma Alieen Allender is Vera's third child.
How do you know these stories of Altie's? I would love to hear more stories if you know any. My Grandma told me a good one you might enjoy.
Altie took the horse and wagon to fetch her pension check. She took my Grandma with her on the ride.Grandma was still quite young. On the way, the wagon flipped and, thankfully, nobody was hurt. However, after that Altie couldn't go on her own to fetch that check.Grandma told us that story right up until her death in 1996. Grandma has a great way of speaking… she would say something like, “It was the _____ that ever was.” She would close her eyes when she spoke and loved to shake that finger.I really miss her.
I would love to share pictures with you.Do you have Adam's picture in his Union uniform?I have one I can share. I believe someone in TN still has the original.I would love to have that!I saw it around 1980, but don't remember who we were visiting at the time.
I may even have a picture of your grandma as a young girl in my records. I'll look.
