COTTON VALLEY, LA - Funeral services for Dayton J. Finlay of Cotton Valley will be held Monday, October 26, 2009, at 2:00 pm at Unity Baptist Church in Cotton Valley. Officiating will be Rev. Randy Lee and Rev. Jim Bell. Interment will follow at Cotton Valley Cemetery.
Dayton was born September 8, 1946 in Chincoteague, Virginia and went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on October 24, 2009 in Cotton Valley. He was an avid horseman and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He served his community in multiple areas of law enforcement with a career spanning over 32 years. Dayton worked tirelessly and fearlessly in the James Monds case, against overwhelming odds and political corruption, to achieve justice.
His mother Elodie Finlay preceded him in death. He is survived by his father Dayton E. Finlay of Cotton Valley, son Dr. Darrell Finlay and wife Rebecca of Ocean Springs, Mississippi, daughter Haley Finlay Henderson and husband Shawn of Dixie Inn, sister Cathy Cole and husband Robert of Cotton Valley, grandchildren Hayden, Emma, Wyatt, and Grace Finlay of Ocean Springs, Mississippi.
Pallbearers will be Don Smith, Cody Cole, Terry Cole, Mel Smith, Sidney Cox, and Shawn Henderson.
Dayton was a loving father, loyal friend, courageous Christian and honest Cowboy Cop. His laughter and his love for people and life will be much missed by all.
