Jason was the son of Mark S. Finicum.I have posted Mark's story to the Finigan Forum.I have seen many spelling of his surname.Mark S. Finicum was spelled N L Finican in one marriage record.
Mark's son, Jason, who appears in Mark's household in the 1860 census, soon
afterwards signed up to be a soldier.His military records contain a "Certificate
of Disability for Discharge" from the Army of the United States.This certificate
"Jason L. Finnicum Corpl of Lieut E. J. Barnes Company, E, of the
Fifth (5) Regiment of United States Kansas Cav, was enlisted by
Lieut Bowmer," ... "at Fort Leavenworth on the 15th day of October
1861, to serve three years; he was born in Richland Co in the State
of Ohio, is twenty years of age, six feet -- inches high, Sandy
complexion, grey eyes, Auburn hair, and by occupation when
enlisted a Farmer."...

Date:---Keokuk, Iowa, Dec 10, 1862.
I certify, that I have carefully examined the said Jason L.
Finnicum of Lieut Barnes Company, and find him incapable of

Jason's military file also contains a final card recording his discharge.It says,
Corp, Co. E, 5 Reg't Kansas Cavalry.

Jason must have recovered his health, for he was listed on the "MUSTER ROLL
of Captain JAMES MCLELLAN'S Company B ... Kansas State Militia ... from the
EIGHTH day of NOVEMBER 1862, to the TWENTY-NINTH day of FEBRUARY
1864.""21Finnicum, J.L." joined and was sworn in "1863 Sept 19" in "Douglas
Township" by "J.McLellan".He had 1 horse in service.
Later he and his brother-in-law, Joseph Fitzsimmons, were listed on the
"MUSTER ROLL of Captain J.L. FINNICUM, Company B, of the TWENTIETH
Regiment, Kansas State Militia, Colonel J.B.HUBBEL, from the TENTH day of
OCTOBER 1864, when last mustered to the TWENTY-NINTH day of OCTOBER
(INCLUSIVE)1864.""J.L.FinnicumCapt." joined and was sworn in "1863 Sept
19" in "Douglas Tp. Jackson Co. Kansas" by "J.McClelan" and ordered into
active service "1864 Oct. 10" at "Holton Kansas" by "Gov. Carney" and relieved
from duty "1864...Oct. 29" by "Brig. Gen. Byran Sherry" with "20" days of actual
service.Present was "J.L.Finnicum" with remarks, "Promoted to Capt. Aug. 9,

The 1865 Kansas census enumerated Jason's household in the same dwelling
with Mary P. and her new family with Joseph Fitzsimmons.The entry is from
Jackson Co., Douglas Twp. P.O. Holton.At Dwelling 359, Family 381 is the
family of Joseph Fitsimon.At Family 382 is Jason's household.

Cath is 17, a female, born in Mo.
Jason's family was later recorded by the 1870 U.S. Census.The entry is from
Georgia Twp., Jasper Co., Missouri, dwelling #89, family #97.
Finicum, Jason is age 29, male, white, Farm Hand, born in Ohio.
Mary C. is age 23, female, white, Keeping House, born in Mo.
Walter S. is age 5, male, white, born in Kan.
Freddy is age 2, male, white, born in Mo.
Also in Dwelling #89 but family #96 is, at the same time:
McCoy, Sarah, age 70, female, white, Housekeeping, born in Pa.
This Sarah is apt to be a relative of Mary's, probably her mother.
Jason L. Finnicum was counted in the 1880 U.S. Census in Fawn Creek Twp.,
Montgomery Co., Kansas according to information supplied by Mrs. Charlotte
Eberhard of 180 Sharon Circle, Athens, GA 30606.Mary Catherine had died;
Walter S. Finnicum was 14, Frederick J. Finnicum was 12, and Mark Paul
Finnicum was 9.
Jason's son, Mark Paul Finnicum, survived to carry on the family name,
according to information that Charlotte Eberhard found in the LDS IGI.Mark
Paul Finnicum married Inie Humphery on 1 Jul 1900 in Deaf Smith, Texas.
Jason Junis Finnicum was born Feb 1901 in Tucumcari, Quay, New Mexico to
Mark Paul Finnium and Inie Humphrey.Charles Fredrick Finnicum was born 18
Mar 1902 in Tucumcari, Quay, New Mexico to Mark Paul Finnicum and Inie
