Hi Kathy - I also posted this same response on the Pennsylvania Forum, so this is a repeat in case you miss the other one:
I believe I, too, am descended from a Jacob First/Furst from Fayette, PA. However, there is a BIG discrepancy in information regarding his reported three wives.
Assuming this is the same Jacob Furst, I found the following citation:
"Jacob immigrated on Ship "Montague" from London, arriving in Philadelphia December 08, 1773. Sources: 130 AWTP ?Reeb? Debra Mobley, and S76." see the following obtained from Ancestry.com database online:
Name: Jacob Furst,
Captain: WILLIAM PICKELS
Date: DEC. 8, 1773
IMMIGRANTS INTO PENNSYLVANIA: Volume 1
Source Information: Ancestry.com. Pennsylvania Foreign Oaths of Allegiance [database on-line]. Provo, UT, USA: The Generations Network, Inc., 1998. Original data: Egle, William Henry. Names Of Foreigners Who Took The Oath Of Allegiance To The Province And State Of Pennsylvania, 1727-1775, With The Foreign Arrivals, 1786-1808. Harrisburg, PA, USA: E. K. Meyers, 1892.
From all the information I have been able to gather, so far, indicates that Jacob Furst b. ca 1749, was married twice before he married as his third wife Charlotte Franks ca. 1786 in Fayette, Pennsylvania. He already had at least one child and/or children from first marriage to Katrina or Katrina Franck/Franks (it is not yet known to me when or where Katrina died or is buried - needs further research), And I have not seen the name "Susanna" as the second wife. However, others suggest there was a wife named "Joanna", and some even suggest the name Katrina Joanna. So which is true?
The child(ren) from previous marriage(s), has been clearly identified as Amy Furst/First b. abt 1780 who md. a Michael Franks, and most likely Phineas Furst b. abt 1782-d.1860, and possibly Mary who was b. in ca. 1785. (see Ancestry.com public member trees). Some people identify Mary as possibly being the daughter of Joanna (not Susanna). I can't figure it out. However, Jacob did not marry Charlotte Franks prior to 1786, so it is unlikely Charlotte is the mother of Mary b. 1785.
There may have been other children born to Jacob Furst before he married Charlotte Franks. Now this where it gets really interesting.
I am currently working on this basis from information cited as follows:
Extracted from Ancestry.com, the following citation : " Genealogical and Personal History of Fayette County, Pennsylvania ", Vol.II, p. 563, the following information:
" Michael (3), son of Michael (2) Franks, was born in German Township, Fayette County, Pennsylvania, at the High House Settlement, about the year 1773, perhaps the early part of that year. At the age of about twenty-three he married Amy First (German Furst), who at the time was less than sixteen years old. She was a daughter of Jacob Furst, who came from Germany. AMy was a daughter by his first wife, his third and last wife being Charlotte Franks (see Charlotte). The Firsts, or Fursts, were among the early settlers."
Also found in this same Volume II, the following quotation found on pg.561:
"The children of Michael (2) were: 1. Henry , of Indian captivity, of whom further. 2. Charlotte , who became the third wife of Jacob First (German, Furst )"
So, as you can see, the information you have does not exactly coincide with some other research out there. HOWEVER, If he were married to a Susanna, and they had a daughter Mary b. ca. 1785, then it may be that the "Susanna Tracy" you are looking for is really this unknown "Joanna". Because the marriage to Charlotte took place in 1786 or possibly as late as 1789, and Charlotte died in 1830 as the last wife of Jacob Furst who died in 1823.
This is a very confusing family lineage, and I am willing to help anyone who descends from this family of Jacob and Charlotte finally get to the bottom of the confusion over who were the three wives, and which of the many children were from which wife.
My primary concern about this whole matter is whether or not Charlotte Franks (third wife of Jacob Furst) was the biological mother to Catherine Furst/First b. July 1786 who ultimately married one Jacob Troxel.
Is this confusing or what? Hope to hear from you and/or any others who have documented sources. Thanks
