Ernest C. "Ernie" Fischer Fischer, Ernest C. (Ernie) 87, was born on December 11, 1920 to Charles and Philomena (Firitsch) Fischer. He died on Thursday, August 7, 2008 at the age of 87. He is survived by his wife Wilma Willis Fischer of St. Louis. As well as 4 brothers, Wilfred, William, Glennon (Mary), Charles (Barbara); 2 sisters, Corine Heimer and Vera (Mrs. Alvin) Beachle all of Ste. Genevieve, and 33 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers and 2 sisters: Edwin, Fredrick, Richard, Louis, Rose and Edna. Mr. Fischer was a supervisor/machinist for 37 years at the General Electric Light Bulb Plant in St. Louis where he was a member of the Quarter Century Club. He served in WW II in the 10th Armored Division. He fought in the Ardennes (Battle of the Bulge) in Rhineland and Central Europe Campaigns. Along with being a Private First Class he was honorably discharged and received the Bronze Star, Good Conduct, Sharp Shooter and Expert Marksman medals. He was a member of American Legion Post 150 and VFW Post 2210. He will be sorely missed by family and friends. He will be remembered by his favorite quotes: 'Play It By Ear' and 'One Day at a Time'.Services: Service from BASLER Funeral Home, 685 Center Dr., Ste. Genevieve, MO at 9:30 a.m. Monday for 10 a.m. Mass at Sts. Phillip & James Church, River Aux Vases, MO. A Military Gravesite Service will be performed by VFW Post 2210 at the Church Cemetery. Visitation 4-8 p.m., Sunday. Donations can be made to a charity of one's choice.
