Mark,
I've not been able to do much family history for several months, but am getting back into it now.I found that I have this family in my database, although without Sarah's maiden name.Did you eventually get the marriage certificate?
I had four of the children (John, James, Collin and William) as having been christened in Maryport - but Eleanor was christened in Dearham, so I had her as the daughter of a different John and Sarah.I've now corrected that in my files. It would seem that between 1846 and 1848 John & Sarah must have moved from Dearham to Maryport, presumably for him to work in a different mine.
Nancy, however, is a puzzle to me.The only Nancy Fishwick I'm aware of from the parish registers in that area at that period was christened in Dearham in July 1852 and was the daughter of William and Ann Fishwick.I'd be very interested to know more about Nancy, daur. of John and Sarah.Where was she born/christened?
As to the origins of John.I can't do more than make a suggestion.I currently have on file three Fishwicks born in that area around 1820 who could be from the same family. These are William, Elizabeth and John.
William is the one I've just mentioned above.Elizabeth married Joseph Dunn and later had a son, Fishwick Dunn, who became quite a well-known boxer in the late-19th century.
I guess marriage certificates would help to confirm or deny much of this as they give father's names and occupations.
Let us know how you get one.
