Hi Bob. I grew up believing my Todd relatives were kinfolk of Mary Todd Lincoln (every Todd thinks this at some point, most like me incorrectly.) Regardless, when I was 12 I became enthralled with Lincoln and read everything I could find on him. I think I was the only 12-year-old in Calif. who knew the significance of April 14, 1865, or the words "...you sockdologizing old mantrap!"* Maybe if more children knew about their roots, they would find history more interesting.
*Words spoken on stage that signaled Wilkes-Booth to enter Lincoln's box and shoot him. Booth knew that line always got a huge laugh, which would mask the gunshot. Linda
