I am looking for the origins of Samuel FISK, who settled in Allenstown, NH by the 1770s. He was not one of the original grant holders. If anyone has come across this line, I'd love to hear from you!
Samuel FISK signed ['mark'] the town's declaration of support for the Revolution. He is listed on a deed transfer in 1781 [John Eliot sold him 110 acres]; as a petitioner in 1787 for the [denied] incorporation of Allenstown; in 1790 a petitioner for a Justice of the Peace; and in the 1790 Federal Census. He probably died before 1798, as he is not on town documents from that year.
For the moment, I am presuming that Samuel Fisk was the father of John (b. 1772) and Abigail (b. 1774). This presumption is based on the following: John and Abigail were born in Deerfield, NH; the Fisk property straddled the Deerfield/Allenstown line; no other Fisk is listed in either town during those years; John Fisk is listed as a petitioner on a 1798 Allenstown document (may have been Samuel's successor).
Presumed children of Samuel FISK:
1. John FISK, b. Aug 1772 Deerfield, NH; d. 1 Aug 1851 Deerfield, NH. Buried Sand Hill Cemetery, Deerfield (on former Fisk property). He married Deborah LADD (b. 1777 Deerfield, NH; d. 15 Dec 1868 Deerfield, NH; buried Sand Hill Cemetery, Deerfield, NH. Dau of Benjamin Ladd and Deborah Allen).
John FISK and Deborah LADD had the following children, not necessarily in order:
1a. Andrew FISK (b. ?; d. ?). May have been twin of Allen.
1b. Deborah FISK (b. ?. d. ?)
1c. John FISK (b. abt 1801; d. 1878. m. Sally FRENCH)
1d. Varnum FISK (b. 1802; d. 1886. m. Dolly CLOUDMAN).
1e. Allen Eugene FISK (b. 1807; d. 1883. m. Mercy Rogers PARMENTER). Among their children was Eugene Allen FISK, a Washington, D.C. lawyer who became U.S. Attorney General for New Mexico in 1889.
1f. Harriet FISK (b. 1814; d. 1864. Never married).
1g. Ann Sanborn FISK (b. abt 1817; d. 1883. m. 1st John L MOULTON; m. 2nd John's half-brother Asa P MOULTON). This is my line.
1h. Lavina L FISK (b. abt 1817; d. 1881. m. William F SANBORN).
1i. Salome P FISK (b. 1821; d. 1885. m. John L DANFORTH).
2. Abigail FISK (b. 12 Jul 1774 Deerfield, NH; d. 24 Jan 1855. Buried Sand Hill Cemetery, Deerfield, NH). She married Jonathan TAYLOR (b. 1776 NH; d. 17 Dec 1842 NH. Buried Sand Hill Cemetery, Deerfield.) I only discovered them last night, so haven't worked on that lineage, but they had at least one child, and a grandchild with the surname Browne.
Hopefully this is of interest to someone out there!
