Willard, I haven't done much research on this FITZGERALD line (yet!) I'm relatively certain there are relatives out there, and it would be such a help if someone could help connect some of the dots.In the meantime, I plug on.
The earliest in the direct iine - Charles FITZGERALD (1811-1897) was married in 1837 to Sarah GALLOWAY (1811-1899, d/o Thomas GALLOWAY and Ruth MAPES)...they were born and died in Orange County, N.Y.
--I believe Charles to be descended from 2nd Lt. William (the immigrant) FITZGERALD (1729 - Ireland; 1813 NY) who married Hannah DRISCOLL. Before coming to America, William had been a 'political activist' in Ireland -as was his brother James. Both had been in prison, both escaped. William came to America (about 1750), James was captured and died in "Dublin Castle."
I've yet to find the ancestor (or even name) that links Charles to William.
There was an assertion posted that Edward FITZGERALD b. 1765 (who married Anne WALLACE) was somehow related to Lord Edward FITZGERALD and to William VESEY-FITZGERALD. (And that they were someone related to William and James, mentioned above, who were imprisoned in Ireland) - but this post then goes on to say it was unlikely (relation) and that "Vesey Fitzgerald was way too late."

My direct FITZGERALD's centered in Orange Co., I believe some migrated to other areas. While I have no proof of a connection to 'Vesey' I'm going to make a wild guess and say that we just haven't found connection....yet.It would seem there were contributors to this forum that likely had the answers to our questions but they aren't active any longer. Which leaves us to...keep searching :)
I'm sorry these forums are being converted to 'read only' in 2 days - (yet another resource taken over ...) Genealogy.com was always a favorite site/resource.
So - I probably haven't helped you. I post periodically on other forums, and have recently spent some time trying to get ancestors (and non-ancestors) linked on Find a Grave. (I'm limited there because can only submit edit requests...)
Please let me know (somehow) if you find our connection:) and how the elusive 'Vesey' ties into the various lines.
