proven by my research and others since 1920, James was born Dec. 1786 (not 1784 or earlier as published) and died 17 May 1862 at his home in Ainsworth, IA (not in Garret Co., MD (as published). He married 1) Lydia (Murphy) Thompson who had a son Israel whom James raised.James owned land in IA and his will is probated, following the deed being transferred to his son James (who was married) in 1875. Jame married 2) Miranda(?) McDonald in 1847 in Hampshire Co., VA (marriage recorded). They moved to Arcarnium OH where they relocated 1849 to IA.
Additional research proves Jeremiah Fitzwater, probably the father of James H. Fitzwater, did not die young as published by many but lived to adulthood and married.Jeremiah became 16 in 1776 - the beginning of the Rev. War - records are scarce during this period. No marriage record of Jeremiah has been located, but Mildred Fisher in 1960 stated he was married and named a wife.(no proof or support) Jeremiah is the son of Thomas and Rosanna Fitzwater.A great grandson of James H. Fitzwater wrote a letter in 1920's stating James had no brothers but 2 sisters who married 2 brothers or cousins named Junkins. Cypranius Fitzwater wrote a letter stating he had cousins in MD and north Virginia.2 other descendants also wrote letters. The more back in generations, the more the errors in these letters. These letters also say "William Fitzwater of Brock's Gap is 'uncle'.The sisters have been believed to be Ruth Fitzwater born about 1748 who married John W. Junkins, who married 2) Elizabeth Anderson 1816 and it is believed Ruth died. The other sister is named as Elizabeth Mary Jane who married Benjamin Junkins. John Fitzwater and William Fitzater (named above) were in Brocks Gap at start (and before) of the Rev. War. John Junkins had a son James born 27 Dec 1808 in VA and dau. Elizabeth born 1806 VA,Benjamin Junkins had daughters Ruth and Mary Elizabeth who married James B. Harvey. They removed to Keokuk, IA. There are families surname Thompson, Harvey, Junking, Chilcott in Washington Co,, IA at the same time as James H. Fitzwater.Benjamin Junkins is enumerated 1810 next to James H. Fitzwater (same age bracket) with wife and 2 sons and 2 daughters. Much further research could be done to prove the 2 sisters of James H. and other facts (above)Garrett Co., MD histories, and genealogies have the data on James H. Fitzwater very much in error - I have documents to prove this.Much of the data is based on speculationregarding the 2 sisters as their are no birth records located to date to my knowledge.Much has been published on this speculation. I welcome any data of proof anyone may have to prove the areas above that are "speculation."
