On February 13, 1877, Thomas Flahive age 24, son of John of Glantanes, married Mary landers, age 21, daughter of John Landers of Ballinahunt, in the Catholic chapel of Annascaul in the Civil Parish of Ballinvoher, Dingle PLU, Co. Kerry, Ireland.
I have reason to believe this Thomas is a brother to my Great grandmother, Bridget Flahive Forhan, born c 1856 to John Flahive of Glantanes and am seeking more information on Thomas and especially his father, John of Glantanes and unknown mother.
I know of three children born to Thomas Flahive and Mary Landers in Ireland:
JAMES FLAHIVE - born 12-25-1880, arrived on the ship “Friesland” in the port of Philadelphia, PA on May 10, 1903.He was going to his brother, John Flahive, residing at 178 Eagle St., Brooklyn, NY.James Flahive lived at 92 3rd St., Long Island City, Queens, NY on February 5, 1911, when he married Catherine Deane of 151 E 92 St., NYC at Our Lady of Good Counsel in Manhattan. He was 30 and a brakeman for the Penn RR. Co.She was 29.Her parents were Eugene Dean and Catherine Ashe.Catherine Mary died in childbirth on 6-30-1913.Her daughter, also named Catherine Mary, lived 1 hour. Both were buried in Calvary Cemetery.
James later married Catherine’s sister, Hannah Deane Galvin of Massachusetts, who was a widow with several children. They moved back to Long Island City, Queens, NY.
JOHN FLAHIVE- Not much is known for sure on this sibling. He was a witness to brother James’ wedding andnaturalization as well as the naturalizations of one of his McKenna’s cousins.I believe John is the same person appearing in the 1910 Federal census, living on Knott Avenue, Queens, age 32, immigrated 1896, married 1 year to Nellie, age 33, who immigrated in 1893; no children. He was a Brakeman for the RR and died from a RR accident while at work on July 15, 1917.His death certificate shows he was living on 4th Avenue, Astoria, Queens, NY and that his parents were Thomas Flahive and Mary Landers of Ireland.
KATIEFLAHIVE- Arrived at Ellis Island on April 21, 1909, on the Ship “Carmania”.She was age 22, her father was Thomas Flahive of Glentanes, Annascaul, and she was going to her brother, James Flahive, residing at 147 7th St., Long Island City, Queens, NY.She was travelling with her cousin, Maurice McKenna, age 22, from Lougher, Annascaul who was going to his sister, Mrs. Thomas O’Connor of 147 7th St., Long Island City.
Looking forward to anyhelp on this family.
