The Will of Samuel FLAKE of Anson County, North Carolina, dated 5 Apr 1802, mentions his wife three times, each time the spelling is Alcy.To someone not familiar with handwriting of that time period, the namecould easily be transcribed as Aley.By comparing the third letter of this name with other occurrences of "c" and "e" in either the original or a copy of the original document, it becomes quite clear that her name was Alcy, not Aley.

Abstracts and poor transcriptions of legal documents can easily lead one astray in their genealogical research.
