Regarding why the Flakes settled in Camden, my family's thoughts have been that William Cook stayed in the area after the Rev. War.(William Cook was in the area of Camden during the battle of Camden, though not actually in it.) This was in 1780. The Yorktown surrender was in 1781.William married Jemima Flake in Apr. 1782.We suspect that he liked the area and returned there after the war.William Cook was an orphan, raised by an uncle in York Co., VA. so he may not have felt strong enough family ties to return to York Co.Camden must have promised more opportunities for young families. Were there any Flakes there before 1782?
