I am trying to locate ancestors or other information on my gr gr grandmother, Mary Flesher (LDS online names her "Fletcher" but family history and a lookup of her marriage in (West) Virginia indicates it probably was spelled "Flesher."
I have downloaded and searched through a fairly extensive Flesher family gedcom which is available online, and cannot match her with any of the numerous families in it, although there are plenty of lines that she might have been left out of who were in her area at the same time.
This is what I have/know:
She was born June 15, 1810 (according to her tombstone inscription) and died April 29, 1889.Various census figures from 1856 to 1880 would put her birth from 1813-1819!) She married Joseph Walker, Jr. February 12, 1834 in Lewis County, [West] Virginia (from WVA marriage book) or in 1833 (LDS).
They had the following children: Margaret Walker, born 1834 in Randolph County, (West) Virginia Barbara Walker, born 1835 in (West) Virginia Louisa Walker, born 1836 in (West) Virginia Joseph Walker, born circa 1838 in (West) Virginia Amos Walker, born October 27, 1839 in Randolph County, (West) Virginia Lebanon Walker, born 1840 in Randolph County, (West) Virginia Rebecca Walker, born 1842 in Iowa Eli Walker, born March 01, 1844 in Iowa Melissa Walker, born 1850 in Iowa
Joseph Walker died in 1852 whereupon Mary supposedly married a man named Isham Thomas, though I have reason to doubt they were married.Their child, my gr grandmother, was Helena V. (Vandalia?) Thomas (named as Walker on several census sheets), born 1854; she married William Brumm.
Helena was apparently listed as a Walker on several census images, though she was born too long after Joseph Walker's death to be his daughter. In 1880 Mary "Walker" was living with Helena and William Brumm, and listed as "Mary Thomas" for the first time in a US census.
