My GG Grandfather Robert Cox married Hester Flook (b 1811) in 1832 at Bitton, Glos. With the help of Peter Chamberlain and Janet Reakes "Flook Web Site" I have been able to find more about her family.
Her parents were almost certainly Daniel Flook and Hester Flook who married in 1802 at St George, Bristol. They had three children baptised in St Geo, Mark in 1804 and Hester and sister Martha in 1809. A Mark Flook was witness at Hester's (the younger) marriage to Robert Cox, so it looks like this is my Hester's family.
It looks as if Hester (the elder) died between 1809 and 1816, as Daniel seems to have re married. In 1816 a Daniel Flook, widower married Sarah Demmery at St George and there were 6 children baptised at St George between 1817 & 1829. In the 1851 census for Kingswood Hill, a Daniel Flook (b 1780 Bitton), was living with wife Sarah, an adult child and a George Cox age 12 listed as Daniel's Grandson.
This seems to all fit very nicely but I still have slight doubts. The age of Hester (bt 1809) in 1851 & 1861 gives a birth date of 1811 as does a possible 1871 entry on her own in Staplton. This is probably close enough to be the same person.
The presence of grandson George Cox age 12 with Daniel in the 1851 Census seems to confirm it is the correct Daniel. However I don't have a baptism or Census entry to connect a George to Robert & Hester Cox. On the other hand I don't have another Flook man who married a Cox, whose child could be mother of George instead of Hester.
Do you recognise any of the above people? Does anyone know of another Flook/Cox marriage around Bristol in the 1830s. Can anyone confirm or deny any of the connections made above?
