Douglas, William Flora was my husband's great-granduncle.I'll give you what I have on him, although you may already know all this.He was the son of Jacob and Mary (maiden name unknown to me)Flora, Sr. I, also, have his birthyear as 1833, but I don't know whether he was born in Hamilton Co. or in Hawkins Co., TN.He married Amanda Barkley--don't know the year.I found him in the Hamilton Co. 1850, '60 '70, and '80 censuses. In 1850, he was in his parents household and was 17 years old. By 1860 he was the head of his own household. He died 22 Mar 1879 in Chattanooga, Hamilton Co., TN.The deathdate was given to me by Jim Bishop.

OK, I found what I was looking for in my records.I think he must have been born in Hawkins Co., because according to Hawkins Co. court records, in September,1843, his father, Jacob, was wanted by officials, because he "did. . .Keep a tipling House and did then and there vend and retail speritous liquors in less quantities than one quart and by the quart intended to be drank [sic] on the premises contrary to the form of the Statute. . ."He had a tippler's license, but obviously was not supposed to sell small amounts to be drunk then and there! In January, 1844, they were still looking for him, but I think that by then he had moved to Hamilton Co.All of that seems to have taken place about 10 years after William was born, so he must have been born in Hawkins.I found the copy of Jacob's license, and it's dated July, 1837, so he was definitely still there.

I hope this will be of some help.
