There has been a flurry of Flower/Flowers yDNA activity lately. I have now seen the results of forty-nine tests, and there have been a few additional matches between the latest results and earlier ones.
Of of the forty-nine tests available it shows that thirty-three of the tests are from totally unrelated males with the Flower/Flowers surname or reasonable variant. Twenty-five of those thirty-three individuals probably are from totally unrelated individuals in the British Isles who took the surname Flower or Flowers when surnames were first adopted (assuming no adoptions or incidents of false paternity).
There are encouraging developments, too. Several related clusters are developing and I know some within each of those clusters are sharing information in an effort to find out how they are connected.
If you haven't yet taken a yDNA test, now is the time. The various testing companies have substantial holiday discounts.
Remember that just like with many surnames, the people that share the Flower or Flowers surname do not all come from the same ultimate Flower or Flowers ancestor. I've become convinced over the years, though, that the only way we'll ever be able to sort this all out is through yDNA testing. (Males only who most probably have the surname Flower, Flowers, or some reasonable variant.)
If there are any questions, please ask. I'm always happy to help in any way I can with your yDNA questions.
