Hi, I'm doing some research and putting together a presentationg for my senior graduation project, and a big part of it involves the history of homemade string instruments, primarily cigar box guitars[http://www.cigarboxguitars.com - http://www.cigarboxnation.com]http://www.cigarboxnation.com] I found a photo taken in the 1860's of a George Flynn of Fall River, Massachusetts, and I'm stuck trying to uncover any information about Flynn so that I can tie in local history to my project.
-I found the picture posted on the front page of Red Dog Guitars[http://www.reddogguitars.com]*photo of George Flynn can be found here with some other CBG photos* [https://www.picasaweb.google.com/108276979120859669214] *or by looking through [http://www.reddogguitars.com] The photo was supposedly taken of a George D. Flynn of Fall River, Massachusetts is 1868 taken by L.Rupert. The photo, I believe, is owned by John McNair of RDG; McNair is one of the most knowledgable CBG historians; I've been in past contact with him, recieved his permission to use ony of the photos, documents, and information he owns, and I'm waiting right now for him to reply to my email about any more info he has about Flynn and the photo. I haven't spent a lot of time weeding through Google- mostly just partial search matches- but an answer to a question about a Flinn/Flynn bottling/brewery/distillery on BottleBooks[http://www.bottlebooks.com/questions/February%202001/February_2001%20Questions.htm] - Digger found some information about a George D. Flynn in Fall River in 1896-1900 who was a brewer. -Someone else on Genealogy.com was looking for some information about a Frank A Flynn[http://www.genforum.genealogy.com/flynn/messages/34.html] who apparently opperated Flynn Brewery & Distillery in Fall River circa approx. 1915.
-I haven't been able to find much about Rupert either, but Google turns up IMDB accounts of an actor "L.Rupert" in a silent Shakespeare play of Richard III[http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0001857/] circa 1911 - Rupert played Sir Richard Ratcliff. I'm not positive that these two Ruperts are the same but the film/photography connection and the relative closeness in time was enough to catch my attention.
Any help is appreciated! Feel free to email me at email@example.com -Chris
