Carol, AT this point I do not believe that the Jeremiah you refer to is the brother of Matthew. However I could be proven wrong since I have little information on these newly discovered members of the family.
Carrick on Suir is roughly 50 miles from Thurles, where verbal family history stated the Fogarty Farm was located. My understanding is that Jeremiah, who would have been born prior to 1850, could have been born as early as 1830ish.I would guess he would have been born on the farm in Thurles and since he was said to have remained on the Family farm, may have been the oldest son.Since Matthew was born in 1831, and John in 1839, my guess is that Jeremiah was born around 1830.
It is also possiblehe was to young to travel to the USA and stayed for different reasons. If he was born in 1844 then if he came in 1864, during the civil War he could be your guy. However, I have no record or verbal statement passed down of a Jeremiah ever visiting the USA, even briefly. Michael, the Augustinian Priest, was said to have come to the USA either to Villanova or to another Augustinian Church in the Philadelphia area for a brief time before heading back to Ireland (location unknown).Edward went to Canada and I have found records on the Internet of an Edward there that could be him.
Matthew Fogarty, in 1864 would have been pretty well established in his cattle/ meat or milk business. In 1886, when he died he would have been considered wealthy and I would think that if Jeremiah did come tot he USA bvefore going west he would ahve at least least stopped by for a time and the info would have been passed down.
If your GGrandmother Mary Elizabeth Corcoran's location in Pennsylvania could be established around the Philadelphia area around the 1860s that could be an interesting lead to follow up on as that might tie our two families together. What do you know about her family as far as names and dates or locations in PA?Do you know if she was born in Ireland? Do you have info on her brothers and sisters and parents as far as birth locations and dates?
A couple of factual ties could really open up some doors. Stay in touch Mike Fogarty
