It may be that there is a connection. Although I have been unable to prove it, I have come across a baptism of a James Follows in Lambeth in 1815. It gives his date of birth as the 9 October 1814 and his parents were John and Ann Follows. John was a hat maker. Was he the father of your John? What makes matters harder about finding James' parentage is that his age is different every time I come accross it! On the 1851 census he is 37 years which is very close to the above James, but on his death certificate in 1879, his daughter said he was 69,which would have meant that he was born in 1809/1810. I think that matters would have been easier if James had also had been a hatter ! There does seem to be alittle group of Follow's around South London and I can't help feeling that there must be a link between them somewhere! My James spent much of his married life in Walworth. I would be interested to know exactly where your Follow ancestors lived.
