Arrived in Fort Orange in 1651.Accompanied by his wife Hester Jans and 3 children. A son Douwe aged about eleven yrs., and daughters Geertien & Sara aged about 9 & 7 yrs respectively.Gillis known to be alive in 1657..probably ill or deceased in 1658. Reasonable to suppose he died 1659 tho' only about 45 yrs old. Hester married Barent Gerritsen (2nd husband) in 1660.Hester died in 1690 (by then had been widowed a third time.)Children of Hester and Gillis:DOUWE Gillis b.Nov.24,1641..d.Nov.24,1700GEERTIE b.
