I found a bio on James Fonda of Lee County, IL.I had never heard of this line, and thought it might help someone working that family group.
Bio appears in "History of Lee County, IL" published in 1881 by H. H. Hill and Company.
Here are the facts:James FONDA was born in West Troy, NY on Oct. 29th, 1816.Parents were William and Abigail.James was an orphan at 9 years old and became a blacksmith.
James married Alsina BACON in December, 1837.She died on May 1st, 1852, leaving him with six children. He remarried to Jane E. HENDRICKS, the daughter of John Hendricks of Wayne County, NY.
Son Fitch Fenton Fonda was in the 69th New York and was captured by the Confederates, became a P.O.W., and died at Andersonville Prison.
Son Edwin R. Fonda enlisted in the 147th New York and caught Typhoid Fever and was severely wounded as well.He went home, then returned to the War as a Secretary to a Quartermaster. After the war he became an engineer with the Union Pacific and was headquartered at Omaha as of 1881.
Son James H. Fonda was an engineer on the same road - headquartered at North Platte.
Anybody got any answers to the following . . .who are the parents of William.Did James Fonda of Paw Paw Grove, Lee County, IL have any brothers or sisters?Who are the other 3 (or more) siblings of Fitch, Edwin and James?Did Jane (Hendricks) Fonda have any kids, or were any of the boys mentioned hers? When did James Fonda die - presumably it was after 1881.
