Antoine Fontaine 11/26/12
Thank you Tony,
Until recently, the only record I had of the marriage of Eusebe and Philomene was the record in the Rhode Island State archiveslisting their marriage as 31 May 1879 in Providnce RI.Attempts to find an actual marriage document were unsuccessful. This marriage took place many years after their children were born, so I tried to find an earlier marriage in Quebec, since this is where their first child was born.I had no luck.
Finally, I recently found on the 1851 Census of Canada for Iberville, St. Athanase parish, a listing for BOTH Eusebe and Philomene, as residing there and married.
This was enough for me to be convinced that this Eusebe from St. Athanase and the Joseph Eusebe, the father of my Ggrandmother, Antonia Fontaine, were the same.
I continue to look for a marriage in Canada, but it is highly probable that the marriage in RI in 1879 was the first for them, as stated on the record from RI.
So, I am sure that my Eusebe is the son of Jean Baptiste Fontaine and Marie Giroux. The record in RI states the parents' names of Eusebe as Jean and Marie.
I continue to seek info on this family.I thank you for your help.I will let you know if I find anything new.
