I have spent a lot of time trying to figure out my Moody family from Maine has ties to the Joshua R. MOODIE/Moody line of Muirkirk, Ayrshire, Scotland and to date cannot make that determination with any solid proof. There is MUCH circumstancial evidence however that seems to point in that direction. Some of the descendants lived in Topsham/Brunswick, Maine where my 4th grt. grandparents lived and some of my Moody family married into the same family that the Moodie's/Moody's of Scotland did too. (Hinkley, Higgins, Harmon etc.) My 5th grt. grandparents were James & Elizabeth Donald(Donnell) MOODY and her parents removed to Georgetown, Lincoln Co., Maine which I also noticed is where some of the descendants of the Joshua R. Moodie/Moody line lived as well or those that his descendants married into. I also had family living in Androscoggin Co., ME as well where Nathan MOODY and his wife and family Lydia WEEKS lived.
Just the other day I noticed I have a 33 or 34/37 Ydna match to someone of the FORAKER surname. While this is certainly Not any proof of a link between my Moody's and the Moody's of the Nathan Moody line, it MIGHT be something of interest.
I still believe that the Elias MOODY of Webster, Androscoggin Co., ME who married Lettice LIBBY is also a descendant of the Joshua R. Moodie/Moody line and I have a lot in common with his line as well. I have posted a great deal of info about these lines on the Moody page over the years.
Last year or year before (can't remember now time flies so fast), but I wrote to the Maine Historical Society in Portland to inquire about the claim that Joshua R. MOODIE/Moody (of any spelling) was appointed Lt. Gov. of Maine in the 1600's or early 1700's.They came back with the answer of "absolutely Not" and that No Moody of any spelling had ever held any office of Lt. Gov. or Gov. in the state of Maine since the 1600's or to date. So that pretty much sewed that myth up. Unless anyone has documentation of this, the State of Maine certainly doesn't.
Our Ydna does Not match to any of the now numerously tested Moody's who hail from England. Our Moody's have mostly been from Northern Ireland (the Ulster region) and have mostly been Presbyterians. This highly suggests though has not been proven yet, that our Moody's/Moodie's/Mudie's most likely came over from Scotland to Nor. Ireland and then on to Nor. America. I have an exact ydna match to a Moody family in Nova Scotia (New Scotland) and since Scotland is the only other country where the Moody/Moodie/Mudie name is as common as in England, I suspect this is where our Moody family originated from. Our Ydna shows that we are Anciently of a Norwegian line which again suggests that our ancestors may have come to Scotland or Ireland during the times of the Viking raids.
We also have a Ydna matching Moody whose Moody family is found in Mahoning Co., OH and other of the same areas where those descendants from the Joshua R. Moodie line went to as well. Again, this still is not any solid proof, but it MIGHT be showing us a link here.Have Any males from the MOODY descendants of the Joshua R. MOODIE/Moody line been Ydna tested yet??This would certainly help to prove once and for all if we are related. We have a lot of ties to several Moody's in OH and it would be great to see if we also match up and to learn of more "cousins" out there.
If anyone has further info on these MOODY's from Maine, descendants of the Joshua R. MOODIE/Moody line, who married into the FORAKER family, I would be most greatful to learn about them. Thank You.
