Dear Mrs. Margaret Forey, Thankyou for your e-mail of 26/2/02.It was very interesting to read about the siblings of the Father of the Marechal Elie Frederic Forey. However unless we can prove a link between the French & the English I fail to see any connection? We have knowledge that our Foreys were mostly born in the West End of London/Marylebone/Islington areas. Some originated from Thursley in Surrey. We are trying to establish when/if any of the French Foreys crossed the Channel to England. We have even speculated that perhaps the Marechal (although a batchelor) may have had a child/children from some brief encounter with an English nurse of Florence Nightingale during the Crimean War, which the Marechal fought in (alongside the British in 1854 against the Russians). My cousin-in-law Robert pointed out that you are in Oz. I didn't notice, I just assumed you were in England. My birth, death & marriage certificates of the English Foreys only goes as far back as 1846, as 1837 is the year when Public Records commenced in England & Wales. Prior to this we have to look at the Parish Churches. However, once again unless we can prove a point where a Forey crossed the channel then I'm afraid we only have a name in common. You are most welcome to have photo-copies of what I have.My Sydney number is:- 02-9552-2733. p.s. Robert sent me a photo-copy of a photo of the Marechal which again I am more than pleased to provide a copy to you. Best Regards, Peter R. Gaulton, 12/17 Jones St., Pyrmont, N.S.W. 2009.
