I still don't know who James' parents are but can update a little on his family.
James was born in Ireland, probably Co Mayo, in 1846. He married Mary Grace, daughter of Thomas, in New Orleans in 1870. James was a screwman, loading cotton onto ships at the dock, he died in 1883 in New Orleans at age 38. Mary was born 1853 in New Orleans and died after 1900 in Galveston, Texas.
James and Mary had five daughters. Catherine was born in 1871 and died in 1872 of convulsions. Anne Elizabeth was born in 1873, died in 1912, married Michael Heffernan in Galveston in 1895, they had seven children. Rosalie was born in 1875, died in 1970, married Philip Traynor in Galveston, they had six children. Mary "Mamie" was born in 1878, died after 1930, married Claude F Mullen in Galveston - she was living in the Southwestern Insane Asylum, in San Antonio in 1930. Regina Winifred "Winnie" was born in 1880, died in Galveston 1902, unmarried.
The two youngest girls were left in the St. Vincent's Infant Orphan Asylum in 1884 and were transferred to the New Orleans Female Orphan Asylum in 1886 although the 2nd asylum has no records. I believe Mary retrieved the girls before they were actually moved. Neither had children.
Mary Grace Forrey remarried and moved to Galveston after James' death. William Murray was born 1836 in Ireland, died 1903 in Galveston.
William and Mary had three children. Bessie was born 1886, married Rufus T Mullen, Robert Lane, and John Jefferson Hussey, Jr. Patrick C was born 1892. Grace O'Malley Murray was born 1893, died 1956, married Bascom Monroe Clements in Galveston in 1909, they had six children.
After William died, Mary married once more to a man named Murphy. I cannot locate a death record or cemetery plot for her but we believe she is buried near Annie Heffernan in the Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
