Hi Marine. Thanks for your reply.Actually, I don't have any Formby ancestry that I know of.However, if what I have seen on the internet is true, I am related to Aaron's descendants through his two wifes, Susannah Thompson and Susan Bowman. Susannah Thompson is said to be the aunt of Susan Bowman.
I am descended through Bethena Elizabeth Thomas
(born about 1815)and Thomas H. Martin of Pike County, Georgia.Bethena is said to have been born in Morgan County, Georgia and to be sister of an Anne Thomas who married a Milliner Martin. These two sisters are said to be daughters of John Thomas and Susan or Susannah Bowman.Something I have seen on the internet implies that the evidence for John Thomas being father of Bethena comes from The Formby Connection.
Susan Bowman is said to have been a daughter of Thomas Bowman and Anne Thompson.Anne is the daughter of George Thompson and Ann Ogiltree.Susan Bowman is said to have married Aaron Formby (who died in Troup County, Georgia about 1860)after John Thomas died.
I have found no primary evidence for Bethena Thomas being daughter of John Thomas and Susan Bowman Thomas Formby, or, for Susan Bowman being daughter of Thomas Bowman and Ann Thompson.
That is where I thought The Formby Connection could help, maybe showing where the evidence is.
Also, I was hoping that in Aaron Formby's will it says something like this "...to my stepdaughter Bethena (Thomas) Martin...".This would prove that Susan, Aaron's wife, was mother of Bethena Thomas.I would still need proof that Susan was daughter of Thomas Bowman and Anne Thompson. There is an 1848 marriage record in Pike County, Georgia for Aaron Formby (spelled something like Fambry) and a Susan Thomas.
The Formby Connection was published in 1983 by Frances and Harold Darden. They also published The Thompson Connection. These books seem to be out of print, but I bet there are people out there who have one or both books. If you go to amazon.com and type in The Formby Connection, it shows it, but they say they don't know if, or when, they will ever get it again. Also, if you go to worldconnect.rootsweb.com at least one of the Formby submitters mentions The Formby Connection.I don't know how far back the authors go on the Formbys or Thompsons in their books.
If Bethena Thomas is daughter of John Thomas and Susan Bowman, and, if Susan Bowman is daughter of Thomas Bowman and Ann Thompson, then it would seem that I am related to you because you mentioned that you had the Thompson ancestry.
Thanks again for your reply. - Fred M. O'Hair
