David Morris Fort Family
David Morris Fort, the head of this family, was born circa 1810 in Tennessee. He married Adeline Dallas Goode , born about 1826 in TN.It would appear from the 1860 and 1880 censuses that as many as 14 children were born to this family on first observation; further research may combine some of these, thereby reducing the family size. Two children appear in both censuses and are readily identified.First is M. A., who is likely the Martha Ann Fort that mothered Edgar Fort McNeely Senior and is buried at Marvell, AR.M. A. was born about 1857-1858 in either TN or MS.The second is John S. Fort who was born 1859-1860 in Mississippi. From these two individuals it can be implied the Forts moved from TN to Desoto County, MS about 1857-1859.Their home site was very probably located in that part of Desoto County that became Tate Co.The daughter Elizabeth Goode Fort, 1842-1920, is the first known child. She married Robert Thomas Haley.Sallie W. Fort, 1848-1894 married 1st Eli Amos Conger and 2nd G. W. McGaha.
Arkabutla, MS.“In 1873 Tate County was formed placing Arkabutla in the new county.Sowell Newson gave one square acre of land to the trustees of Liberty Hill School…for a school and nondenominational church. The trustees were D.
