Susan,The answer to your query depends on whether you are sure of the most common spelling of Francis Fouke or Fowke.I have seen almost all FOWKE names of Charles County MD spelled as FOUKE from time to time but more often as FOWKE.Gerrard Fowke, who came to VA and then "slid over" to MD and founded the MD family of Fowkes. They were well known in Charles County but perhaps Frances Fouke is the best known as she was the grandmother of Francis Mason of huge importance to VA (Rights document of VA which was heavily used to later fashion our USA Bill of Rights)MY wife and I visited the Gunston Hall in VA (a bit down river from Mt. Vernon) plantation of the Masons a few years ago and I reminded the folks there that Gunston Hall in Staffordshire , England inspired the naming of Gerrard Fowke's home as Gunston hall and later Francis Mason's beautiful home!We visited Gunston Hall in England and made a short Video of what remains of what was first a castle then a Hall then (now) a Riding School!some of the moat still serves as a duck pond! I have much data on this family and will share whatever you need...Dick Matteson College Park MD ps. Gerrard's wife was a Thorogood from VA and I will try and get the PLACE of Frances' Birth - for some reason my memory has failed to instruct me as I write!
