In previous message, I mistakenly referred to my confusion over the "1850" census when I intended to refer to the "1850 and "1880" census.Following is a corrected inquiry:
Am trying to determine which of the two John Fousts listed on the same page of the 1850 and 1880 Lauderdale County Census is the son of David Foust and Mary Stutts.(I am particularly interested in the line of the John Foust listed in the 1880 Census as husband to "May" (perhaps a misspelling??) whose children are Adolphus, Allen, Ester, John C., Lucy, and Thomas.)Does anyone know why one of the two John Fousts listed on the same page in two census (1850 and 1880 Lauderdale Co.) started being identified as John W. Foust? It seems to me that maybe the two Johns have become confused.Based upon the 1850 and 1880 census in particular, I am inclined to conclude that the father of Adolpus, Allen, Ester, John C., Lucy and Thomas Foust is John Foust b. 1838-1841 NC, whose father is David Foust, b. 1804 NC.Likewise, I am inclined to conclude that the father of the John Foust b. in AL about 1842 is Hiram Foust b. 1812 NC (see Lauderdale Co. Census 1850) BUT THIS IS CONTRARY TO WHAT SOME OTHERS HAVE WRITTEN BASED UPON THEIR RESEARCH.Am I missing something?Anybody have any info/documentation that will help clear this up?Thanks very much.By the way, if anyone needs copies, I have Lauderdale County marriage documents of John Foust and Amy Curtis, William Foust and Mary E. Stutts, A.T. Foust and Mary Gooch, Adolphus Foust and Edna Clemmons, Louis Foust and Kate Gooch, L.A. Foust and Willie Ann Gooch, John B. Foust and Nancy Benson, John W. Foust and Mary E. Wright.
