In May of 1993, in an effort to help trace the Gibson Co TN WEST-FOUTCH roots of one who had written to the local paper, (Tina WEST MELONE, of IL) I called a local number and talked to Alma Luther FOUTCH, to see if he knew anything about Sarah Jane FOUTCH who had married William H WEST in Gibson Co TN in 1851. This is what I got from Alma FOUTCH:
He is 92 years old, b 8 Feb 1901, his father was Lazarus FOUTCH, b TN, his mother Annie, b TN. Lazarus father was John, married lived in IL, moved to Gibson Co near Chapel Hill Baptist church, wife Mahalia, died 1852, he married again in 1855 to Emily BRADEN (June 1855). 1 child female married a WEST, went to TX. A woman from El Paso TX found their graves in Little Rock AR. She was doing research, stopped to talk to Alma. Lazarus' half sister was the one that married the WEST. Lazarus' brothers and sisters; Martha (oldest); Emma married a LONGMIRE;Dave lived in 16th district; Frank died as young man, not married; George, youngest. Lazarus' grandfather took the side of the British in Rev Wr or War of 1812.
According to social security records, Alma Luther FOUTCH died in Gibson Co TN 17 Nov 1996, his last residence, Medina, Gibson Co TN. end
I have since found Sarah and Wm H WEST went to White Co AR and found their descendants mostly in Royal Township or El Paso, including Sarah, mother, living in household of William F WEST in 1910, she is age 74 and is said to be born in IL and in some censuses, she is said to be born in TN and IL, and some have stated their mother, Sarah, born in TN and IL.
