Hi This is our family mystery and if anyone has information it would be a huge help and relief.
My great-great grandmother was Annie Foy, daughter of Katherine Foy, whose parents emigrated from Ireland and they settled between Rhinebeck and Kingston, NY. The father had a successful ferry that crossed the Hudson.
As a Catholic family, they had Katie walk to the local parish for holy water. On one of these visits she was raped by the priest. Her family kicked her out, she was pregnant with Annie. She was approximately 15 yrs. old.
She went to work at an Inn, and did laundry. She met up with John Ellsworth, a man of terrible character. She married him and had other children by him. She passed on at the age of 36, Annie had to escape in order to get away from her stepfather. We have our history from Annie forward, but not Katie's history or her family. We would like to find the rest of the mid-hudson Foy's and possibly the name of the priest who is my great(4x) grandfather. The local churches have had little or no information and many records from the mid 1800s were lost in a Kingston fire. There must be someone out there who still knows and we hold out hope to find them. Katie had a big Irish family, and despite the terrible circumstances of their parting, it would be a great healing act to mend this family. Four generations seems like a long time, but the effects of this event still resound in our family now.
