I am one of the very few remaining members of the Fradd family left in the UK it seems and it looks as if we are distantly related.
John Joseph Fradd emigrated to Australia in 1857 on the Monsoon. He was one of 5 children of John Fradd and his wife Jane (Shear)who lived in the village of St Mawgan-in-Pydar in Cornwall (just outside of Newquay and where I was brought up).John and his younger brother Francis (my great, great grandfather) moved from Padstow to St Mawgan in approx 1828/30 and both married local girls.
John and Jane lost two of their daughters when young (Susan and Mary) but raised Elizabeth Mary, William Philip and John Joseph.Elizabeth married Thomas Henry Broad (also spelt Brad) a builder in 1848 and had two children before emigrating to Australia aboard the Lysander in November 1851.They went on to have a further 10 children while living in Burra, Australia.
I don't know what happened but father John accompanied Elizabeth and Thomas on the Lysander, leaving his wife at home (the next census lists Jane and her mother still living at the home address but with a 'lodger' - looks like divorce wasn't an option then so he simply moved on).The other son William emigrated to Australia in 1868 on the John Nicholson and I believed died on the 16 December 1922 at Copperhouse.
As you probably already know, John (junior) married twice, first Ellen Grace in 1859 and then Marian Hare in 1894, both at Burra. He fathered 10 children, the sons being John Oliver, William Philip, Francis, James and William Henry (the last two dying as infants). There were also 5 daughters, Margaret (married name Lomman), Ellen (Edwards) Elizabeth, Susan (Boscene)and Julia (died as baby).
That is all I know of the Australian tree but I do have a lot of details regarding the Cornish side both before and after John (senior).Hope this is of some use to you.
