Hi, Jackie! Thanks for the information, and glad you liked the picture. I've just put two others on the FTM home page. There are also photos of Martha with her husband and children, and Martha & Thomas Monroe Swiney in front of their store in Cullen, LA. They later moved back to AR. I have a photo of Lou Frailey, which I need to rescan, but will be adding it, soon.
I finally got D.W. Frailey's military records, skimpy as they are, but getting his pension information has been another matter. (He was with the 15th KY Cavalry, by the way.) I got a note from the NARA saying that they did not have custody of the file, it was in the possession of Veterans' Affairs, and gave me the file number there and instructions on how to contact them -- in what seemed a round about way. They speculated that the record might be needed to settle a claim. D.W. died about 70 years ago....
I followed all the directions, mailed the papers off, and have been waiting for many, many months for anything at all to arrive in the mail. Nothing. I'll keep trying. When and if I ever get the pension file, I'll scan the pages and put them on Rootsweb, along with his cousin, Daniel's military records.
Everything was going on a huge mega-site at Homestead, but they are changing their policy, and it's "moving day," again.
