Robert Frampton was Headmaster of Gillingham Free School in Gillingham North Dorset. He was a friend of Dr. Edward Davenant who persuaded Frampton to become ordained at a time when, of course, the Church of England had been proscribed. Davenant was concerned that if he delayed much longer there would be no bishop left to ordain him. Frampton finally agreed and was privately ordained by Bishop Skinner of Oxford. Robert Frampton features quite highly in the history of Gillingham School. His picture hangs on the wall in the Headmasters office and for many years a school house was named after him. This house name was changed to Fletcher after the murder of WPC Yvonne Fletcher (Former pupil of the school) was murder outside the Libyan Embassy in London on 17th April 1984.
