Since posting my followup to your request, it's occurred to me that my Charles (Charlie France) Collyge named one of his sons "Willie" (not William or Bill, etc.). Actually, he was Named Willie Nelson (Collyge). The names which he and Martha (Sanderson) Collyge gave to their children also included Joseph, Mollie, Hattie, Allie, Millie and Ida (as well). I'm wondering if any of those names appear in your history of France family names. Charles France would have been a very young man (teenager??) during the Civil War when he "abandoned" his family, changed his name and went to fight for the South. Family lore has it that he was from Tennessee but spoke very little of his roots,.... as if his family and he had disowned each other over the War/Slavery issue. We've as yet to learn from whence he came, who his family were, etc. I'm really "reaching" -- wondering if the name he used as a middle name might be the key to finding his roots... Thank you, Pete Collyge (Pete.Sharon@Verizon.net)
