My name is Jeff Julian, and I am a history teacher in Bemus Point, New York. My family is trying to solve the mystery of our family ancestry on the side of my grandfather, Frank Joseph Julian. Since he left apparently contradictory information, our family doesn't know what to believe. We were told we were of French descent, but now we're not so sure.
Frank Joseph Julian (or Gulian) was born in Rome, Italy on May 15, 1894 or 1895. He claimed to have at least one brother and one sister, and that his mother's name was Natiaro and his father (whose name was possibly Joseph or George) died in a fall. The entire family lived in Rome, at least in the early 1900s. My grandfather sailed from Naples, Italy to America on April 1, 1909--when he was only 14 years old--on a ship called The Verona. He married and raised a family in western New York State, living in the communities of Van Buren, Pomfret, Sheridan, and Dunkirk in Chautauqua County, and always told his children that he was from Albany, New York and was of French descent. He died on January 29, 1969 without ever telling us about his origins and family in Italy.
Since we are now unsure of our ancestry, my family would be very grateful for any assistance you could give us in matching us to a Julian family tree, or providing information about my grandfather, or the origins of the Julian name.
Thank you for your help, and I look forward to hearing from you.
