Hi, my name is Steven Hernández and I also have extensive ancestry from Los Altos de Jalisco, including Arandas, Tepatitlán, San Miguel el Alto, Jalostotitlán, San Juan de los Lagos, and Lagos de Moreno.Barba and Franco are very old Spanish Creole families. They were among the first founders and settlers of Valle de Guadalupe, whose lands were once part of Tepatitlán and Jalostotitlán.The Barba family used to be known as MUÑOZ DE LA BARBA.Their patriarch was a gentleman by the name of Francisco Muñoz de la Barba (b. 1594, son of Juan Muñoz de la Barba and Anna de Espíndola II)who married Catalina González Rubio (dau. of Francisco Gutiérrez Rubio and Ana González Florida) in 1619, in Jalostotitlán.As time went by, some became just Muñoz and other kept the Barba, but they are still the same family. The Franco family used to be known as FRANCO DE PAREDES.The first Alteño patriarch was Pedro Franco de Paredes. He was baptized on 18 Jun 1624, in Silao, Guanajuato. His parents were Blas de Paredes and Anna Maria Franco de Montoya.Pedro married Leonor de Hermosillo (dau. of Cristóbal Muñoz de Hermosillo and Leonor Talavera), around 1658, in Jalostotitlán.
These, as well as many other Alteño families, have been diligently researched by myself and other historian/genealogists especially Lic. Mariano González Leal. His book "Retoños de España en la Nueva Galicia" contains an entire chapter devoted to the FRANCO DE PAREDES family.Anybody interested should do a thorough search of his book on the Internet.Although it is hard to find, it is a masterpiece of Alteño history and genealogy.
