My father,Gabriele Francoli, b.Dec 15,1902, emigrated to Australia in 1924.His father was also Gabriele Francoli,b.1865,d.Nov 17,1909. Their family town was, and is, Campodolcino,in the Splugen Pass, Sondrio Province, North Italy. I gather you don't know exactly where your grandparents came from.If your grandfather said Switzerland it could be Sondrio Province, Italy, because it was Switzerland until Napoleonic times.their dialect and culture wasRomancsh( Swiss-Rhaetian ). I should say I have been skirting at the edges of getting genealogical. I have always been interested but I find the business of doing a Francoli family tree rather daunting. The name was Spanish.I have been told my lot emigrated to Italy.I don't know when.I do know there are plenty of Francolis around North Italy.I have been told they are all related. My Italian is very poor. In the late 1800s there was a family at, or near Rivoltella, Lake Garda.Their descendants should be plentiful, and in the area.I spotted Francoli names from Navaro, Piedmont Province from that 18c era on the net, but did not keep the names.I notice Francolis onthe net under South Dakota, BARN AGAIN.Interestingly, for me, there is a Gabriel Francoli farm at Ashton South Dakota. Ideally I wish someone in North Italy would do a family tree and make it available.I have cousins and am related to the liqueur family of Ghemme, North Italy.Unfortunately time, language and distance do create barriers. I would be delighted if any of this helps.
