Hi James, I'm hoping that you see this post.
My mother was Mary Franey, (married to Louis Haydu), daughter of Florence Hedden Franey (died December 1986), who was Thomas Franey's ex-wife.My mom was your cousin. My mother and her brother, Dr. Thomas J. Franey are both deceased; my mom in August of 2006 and her brother last May 2011.
My mom met her father one time in Florida and once when he and Jack came to Scranton to visit their brother Harry on Merrifield Ave in the Keyser Valley section. He left my grandmother and her two children around 1930 and moved around before settling in Florida and fathering 3 daughters with his common-law wife; I'm assuming that Margaret Franey Thomas is one of his daughters.
I have a photo taken about 1959 of my First Holy Communion and Gram Boston, as my mom called her, is in the picture.I don't remember her.
I have 3 siblings, a brother Tom born 1954 and sisters Joan (1955) and Gail (1960).I'm the eldest, born in 1951.My mom's brother and his wife had no children; and Harry and his wife, Mary, were also childless. The house on S. Merrifield was left to some strangers and I think they sold it.I have some stories about him and they aren't nice.
My sisters and I are traveling to Ireland in July for 9 days. My sister's husband has cousins there, living in Belmullet on the west coast, so we'll be visiting them one day.I've been trying to find some family history but there's a brick wall in my way.I found the U.S. census from 1920 and 1930 listing Anthony J. Franey being born in Ireland, but that's it...just Ireland. No other clues.I remember my mom giving me some info and I wrote it down but only God knows where it is now.I checked the census for Tuam that some fellow posted you, but didn't get any hits from that.
