I am searching for my great grandfather's family. His name was Horace Claude Freemantle and he was born in Hackney, Middlesex, England on June 5, 1884.At the time of his birth, his parents, Horace Freemantle (b: about 1857 in Hackney) and Harriett Ann (Hopper) (about 1858 in Pancras) were living at 29 Powell Road, Lower Clapton. Horace was a commerical clerk. In a 1881 British Census, I have found Horace Freemantle, 24, born Hackney, Middlesex, soldier, unmarried, as a hospital orderly in the Military Hospital Haslar, Alverstoke, Hampshire. I have a 1901 British Census that has listed:Horace, 45; Harriett A, 44; Horace Claude, 16; Gladys H, 10; Stanley E, 8; and Mildred V, 3. Sometime later, Claude married Sarah Jeanette McColl (b: February 28, 1872, London) and they came to Canada. My grandfather, Reginald Arthur was born in Toronto, Ontario on August 8, 1906.They also had a daughter, Marjorie Phoebe (abt. 1908) and Harold Francis Hugh (abt. 1910).I don't know if Marjorie and Harold (who went by the name of Frank) were born in Toronto or not. Anyway, Claude, Sarah and family came to Vancouver, BC sometime later.I have Claude's will of August 11, 1922 and in it, it states in case of emergency the nearest relative is:Albert Squirrell of the Canada Steamship Lines at Toronto Ontario, who was probably a cousin of Sarah's.Also listed is a Mrs. H. Freemantle of 12 Pratt St. Camden Town, London and a Mrs. J. Cooper of 22 Bessborough Place, Westminster, London. When Claude died on March 30, 1959, the obit said he had two sisters in England.Does anyone have information that can help in my search of my family?
