Chuck,
Thank you so much! If I can every find the family member who traveled from Oklahoma to Rusk County Texas it would be tremendous. George Freeney Sr. and wife Ann are the freed slaves I know of.My 93 yr old grandfather still remembers quite a bit but here is my stumbling block:Ggfather George Jr. was adopted by gggfather Geo. Sr.It is said his mother died, he had no father and Geo. Sr. brought him home and called him Freeney.Geo. Jr.'s mother was said to be a Gibson, she was buried in an abandoned cemetary in the woods. (I'm looking into one called McCallister Cemetary that fits the description) Thus, Geo. Jr. and his offspring dropped the 2nd 'e' and spell their name Freeny. There is a gap in information as to why Geo. Sr. chose to claim Geo. Jr.My grandfather says his mother told all 10 of her children "Never ask your father about his mother, that is his fighting piece." Anyway, I am in touch with our family members who still spell their name Freeney and have a lot of information on them also.
Thank you a lot.I am interested in anything you have.
Brenda
