My ggg-grandfather was Jose Maria Frias, born circa 1780 in Logroño, Calahorra de la Rioja (Reino de Castilla), Spain. He emigrated to Mexico when he was 17 years old, and married María Rafaela Jaso (or Xaso) in Cedral, SLP, in 1804.His parents were Juan Manuel Frías and Manuela Garri, both of Logroño.
Jose Maria Frias and Rafaela Jaso had several children.Jose Antonio Frias Jaso, born in 1808 in Matehuala, was my gg-grandfather.He married my gg-grandmother Refugio Ruiz de Esparza in Rincon de Romos, Aguascalientes, in 1840, and later moved with his family to Tepic, now capital of Nayarit (in those days Tepic was 7th District of Jalisco (Septimo Canton de Jalisco). My great grandmother Maria Josefa Frias Ruiz-de-Esparza was born in Rincon de Romos in 1848, but grew up in Tepic where she married Wilhelm L. Strecker in 1870.Wilhelm Strecker was a german engineer and ship captain who ended up in Mexico when his ship capsized off the coast of Mazatlan, probably on his way to the port of San Blas (near Tepic).
Antonio Frias Jaso died in the late 1800s, probably in Tepic.Wilhelm Strecker and Josefa Frias moved with their family to Guatemala, where my great grandfather was involved in the contruction of the interoceanic railroad joining the ports of San Jose and Puerto Barrios.Wilhelm Strecker died of yellow fever in Colon, Panama, during construction of the Panama Canal.Josefa Frias de Strecker died in Guatemala City in 1921.Wilhelm Strecker and Josefa Frias had four children born in Tepic, San Sebastian and possibly Guadalajara between 1871 and 1882, before they moved to Guatemala.Their only son, Guillermo Strecker Frias, was my grandfather. He died in Guatemala in 1947.
If you - or anybody you know - is a descendant of Jose Maria Frias and Rafaela Jaso please let me know.I am interested in exchanging genealogical information.
