in America he went by the name Charles Frederick Frickie.
He usually went by his nickname, "Fritz".
I presume that in Germany his name was Carl/Karl Friedrich
Fricke. He was born in 1837, and we think that he arrived
in America around 1858.
We know for sure that by 1872 he was in Louisiana, because his oldest son (Frederick "Fred") was born there.
On census records Charles is listed as a cooper (barrel maker) and that he was from Prussia. His wife's name was Margaret (Margarethe/Marguerite?).
The family lived in Plaquemine, Louisiana which is in Iberville Parish. They had 9 children.I am descended from their son, Frank Joseph Frickie.
Charles died in 1897 and is buried in Plaquemine.I do not know who his parents were, however, family info. seems to suggest that our line of Frickes may have come from Magdeburg.
I do not know where Charles (Fritz) was between 1858 and 1870 - Louisiana? or somewhere else?
If anyone has info. on this line of Frickes, I would love to hear about it.
Deborah Frickie (Fricke)
