I am looking for both ancestors and siblings' decendants of my grandfather James Friel.I have very limited and possibly inaccurate information. He had always claimed to have been born on 6 December in early 1900s in Donegal. As he approached his sixties he sent to Ireland for his birth certificate and it came back stating D.O.B. as 1st January, 1901. I know he owned a motorcycle and then an automobile, in his teens. Both were apparently used for no good.It is believed that his mother had him secreted out of Ireland when several of his friends were hanged around 1920.He became a sailor and Merchant Marine and used many different names when he jumped ships on various continents. He finally settled in Montreal, Canada and married my grandmother, Eileen Constance Meek ( deceased May, 1994) in either Halifax, Nova Scotia or Montreal, Quebec (both in Canada). He trained sailors in the Royal Canadian Navy during WW2.In 1951 or 1952 he moved to Toronto, Ontario, Canada, where he lived for the rest of his life. I know he had one brother who became an RC preist and emmigrated to Canada or USA.I think his name was John or Joseph. He had another brother Phillip and a sister, sister-in-law, or neice named Bridgett and one named Polly. There was also a Patrick somewhere in there. They ran the family pub called "Friel's" in Donegal until the 1960s or 1970s. My grandfather had been very secretive until his last few years and all records were destroyed upon his death on 26 December, 1987 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. James and Eileen raised one child, my father, Victor Garfield Friel (deceased 30 March, 1994). Any information will be greatly appreciated.
