The surname Fritsch comes originally from the given name Frederick. Among Prussian families with noble connections, a von was added before Fritsch. Commoners were not allowed to use this title. The use was strictly controlled by the government. Most Fritsches are/were commoners and there are hundreds of them scattered aound Germany today. I only know that my G granddad said he was born in Prussia. At that time, 1866, Prussia was made up of many states of what is now the eastern part of Germany.10/27/00
