My great-great grandfather was born William H. Frohboese in Baden, Germany on August 21, 1821.He married Charlotte J. (maiden name unknown) born July 22, 1822 and they married in 1847 in Germany. They immigrated to the United States in 1851, where they settled in the St. Louis, Missouri area first. They later moved to the Alton, Illinois area, (just across the Mississippi River). The 1900 Madison County, Illinois census gives us most of this information. He was a great Tailor, as my grandmother and uncle told me.He spoke, wrote and read English but Charlotte did not learn to do either.
To this marriage was born 7 children, of which only 5 lived to adulthood. 1) Matilda J. Frohboese b. Nov. 1859 in MO. 2) Emma Lydia Frohboese b.May 28, 1862 in MO. 3) Frederick Frohboese b. ? 4) William Frohboese b. ? 5) ???
Matilda married George Weber Emma Lydia Frohboese married Jacob T. Scheldt. They named their daughter-my grandmother "Charlotte Frohboese Scheldt".My grandmother was very proud of her middle name. I do not know any more information on the 2 sons.
I would like to know if anyone knows of the parents of William H. Frohboese? And, if they might know the maiden name of Charlotte? If they might know the marriage date in Germany?
As I do not know how to speak German, it is hard for me to contact the German Ancestry/Geneological society.I would appreciate any help in this family line.My father (who is 87 years young) is 100% German. He can speak German, but very slowly. As his father and mother are not around any more to speak German with him.
I am glad to see that the name Frohboese/Froboese/Frobose/Froby are not completely gone from the world.
Once again, I would appreciate any help with my family name.
