Frank Tull was a kinsman of mine and very interested in Fromans from the 1940's until his death in the 1960's.However,the ONLY source he had for the surname Cartmell was the same book used by everyone else,T. K. Cartmell's SHENANDOAH VALLEY PIONEERS, book published early in the 20th century (1908).But actually, as early as the 1960's when I became involved in genealogy,it was already clear to all the Cartmell and Froman researchers that T. K. Cartmell had erred when he said Paul Froman Jr.'s wife was a Miss Cartmell, daughter of one of the two brothers who went to Kentucky. He had already described these two brothers and it was clearly impossible, from their ages, for either of them to be father to Mary Froman. So far as I know, T. K. Carmell's book was the source for all these so-called "traditions" and identifications of Paul Froman's wife as a Cartmell. It was not otherwise a "tradition" in either the Froman or Cartmell families.
