Martha born in 1812 in Bedford Co., Tennessee
They moved to Carroll Co., TN around 1830.
This is an interesting story concerning Martha's first husband.
During the removal act, a man of the Cherokee Tribe escaped from captors, and found the door of the Frys in Carroll Co.He was given medical treatment and stayed with the family, later marring the daughter, Martha.Ofcourse no records of such an event would have been recorded.
There is another interesting story that has been passed down through the decendants of Absolom's son William W. Fry.According to that branch of the family, Leonidas' father was an American Indian.Since indians were being moved to reservations, the Fry family took Martha's maiden name (Fry) and they never recorded their father in any official documents. So with each census, we find Martha Fry and her children. Each census shows more children, but no father is ever there. It is also rumored that they made the move to Arkansas either to avoid having their father sent to the reservation without them. In fact, one route of the infamous "trail of tears" passed very close to Randolph county, Arkansas on the way to the reservations in Oklahoma. It may be that their father was forced to leave and they went with him. However, they stopped in Arkansas instead of proceeding on to Oklahoma to the reservations.
